And yes, it is with the knowledge that I likely stand alone, with the whole of King’s dedicated fan base sharpening their pitch forks. I say this because on the other hand, I found our Hero, Detective Hodges, to be insufferable. The ending wraps a little too neatly for my liking, but as the first instalment of a promising trilogy, this feels necessary. He’s got a little bit of everything: a loving, freudian relationship with his mother (really, nothing is more fucked up yet intriguing like some classic incest), a passion for cleverly executed mass murder, and brain functioning on near genius level.
